Tom Muse

Tom Muse joined the company in 2019, after seeking us out shortly after completing sixth form college with a passion to become a civil engineer. He’s gone from strength to strength here at Murraywood after gaining valuable experience from more experienced members of our workforce and through his own dedication to go above and beyond what’s expected of him to complete off-the-job training outside of work hours.

Tom is part of ICE’s graduate and student network and hopes to become a fully fledged ICE member once he’s completed his apprenticeship. He is currently working towards a distinction a Civil Engineering Degree at UCLAN, in which he has 3 years left.

Whilst working for us, Tom has had the pleasure of meeting former Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a site visit of our AstraZeneca project but most recently he’s been seen working hard at sites including St Gabriel’s, First Street and Walkers Snackfoods.

Thomas McBain

Thomas McBain was working at the Lime Street project for another company before he joined Murraywood Construction in 2017.  Since joining Murraywood, and with the guidance and mentorship colleagues, has completed a HNC and Class 1 BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University.

Murraywood have supported Thomas by mentoring him through his HNC and his degree and he now has a much wider understanding of Civil Engineering. Working as an apprentice gives Thomas valuable experiences he wouldn’t have been able to get from a classroom alone. Working with both groundworkers and managers has allowed him to fortify his engineering skills and knowledge to enable him to confidently work with main contractors and their engineers.

Thomas is due to finish his apprenticeship with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) within the year, along with undertaking an NVQ Lvl 6 in Construction Site Management.  He is excited for what the future holds in an industry which is constantly changing and offering up challenges. Additional to his academic studies, he has taken advantage of learning a variety of additional skills, including CSkills SMSTS, MHFA and NEBOSH qualifications, all of which are part of his off-the-job training.

Callum Ingle

Callum Ingle started at Murraywood Construction after completing a work placement with us after finishing his A-Levels. He wanted to be a Quantity Surveyor and was considering going to university to get his qualification. However, his time with us opened his eyes to the possibility of completing an apprenticeship instead which would mean no student debt and valuable experience of on-the-job training.

Callum therefore made the decision to extend his time at Murraywood indefinitely. He is now entering his penultimate year of his Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship at the University of Salford, which he has greatly benefitted from and is working alongside more experienced members of our workforce to help guide and support him through his qualification.

“I have been given control over my own construction sites, with oversight from Murraywood senior QS’s whenever I need any support. This allows me to learn the practical skills that apply in real life and when combined with the theoretical side through my degree is a greater benefit.  I would recommend this pathway to anyone as you get the best of both worlds whilst being able to experience university life and being financially stable.”

Joe Clifton

Joe Clifton started at Murraywood Construction in 2023, after finishing college to begin his career in civil engineering. Joe is currently completing a BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at LJMU. Joe is excelling within Murraywood as he is gaining valuable experience from the extensive knowledge of our engineers and team on-site.

Murraywood is supporting Joe in both his studies and practical skills as a civil engineer, as well as providing him with opportunities he would otherwise not be able to benefit from.
